Dear Friends in Christ, Each Spring, on behalf of our agencies and ministries, I invite you, our parishioners, to be partners with us in serving the community with charitable, educational and ministerial services. Partners in Charity is a lifeline of support for tens of thousands of people in search of hope.
Since the early 1960s, when Bishop Flanagan began what was then called the Bishop’s Fund, parish volunteers would go door to door, usually the first Sunday in May, to ask for donations. The annual appeal was often completed in a day with parishes calling in their totals to the Chancery on Sunday evenings.
Today, with a goal of $5 million and an appeal that is largely conducted by mail and online, it takes much longer to conduct our appeal. For this reason, I ask you to prayerfully consider making a pledge or gift soon in order for us to be prepared to assist people next fiscal year. The challenge to find hope for the people we serve is greater then ever this year. Food insecurity is only growing despite living in the wealthiest nation. Families are increasingly at risk of homelessness. More families would like to choose a Catholic school education for their child but cannot afford the full tuition. Young couples need the encouragement and formation to make a lifelong commitment and to have the graces of a sacramental marriage. Newcomers to our area from other parts of the world seek supporting faith communities in order to continue to receive the sacraments and raise their children in the faith. These are just a few examples of how you can make a difference in people’s lives with your pledge or gift.
Thank you for prayerfully considering how you can give the gift of hope to those in need and keep the legacy of Pope Francis alive during this Jubilee Year of Hope. Please use the materials from your parish or visit partners-charity.net today. With every prayerful best wish I remain,
Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Robert J. McManus Bishop of Worcester
